Draft ACT Climate Change Adaptation Strategy - Living with a warming climate.

Our climate is already changing, affecting health, property, infrastructure and businesses across Australia. In Canberra and the surrounding region climate change is resulting in longer drier summers and increased frequency of storms. This is increasing the threat from bushfires, heatwaves and violent storms to lives, property, economic activity and the environment.

To help our city and region, the ACT Government is preparing a draft ACT Climate Change Adaptation Strategy: Living With a Warming Climate. The government is seeking community feedback on the draft Adaptation Strategy.

Once completed, the Adaptation Strategy will:
  • reduce our vulnerability to the impacts of extreme weather events by enabling households, businesses and government to assess climate risks and be prepared for extreme weather events
  • increase our resilience by putting in place policies, programs and practices so we are able to overcome climate change shocks and stressors.
The draft Adaptation Strategy has been informed by a review of the potential impacts and risks of climate change in the ACT and was developed in collaboration with experts and stakeholders.
The draft Adaptation Strategy seeks to adapt our city to current and future climate challenges and build community resilience. The ACT Government invites public comment on this draft and its proposed actions to help us achieve these goals.
